Recognition
before thought
4. Undid
He thought she wanted more than he could give.
What she wanted was to stop hiding.
She had spent a lifetime translating,
keeping feeling under control,
speaking from the head instead of the chest.
Something in him undid her restraint.
Words spilled.
Truth pressed forward.
A long-quiet child in her stepped into the light,
looking for landing and not flight.
She frightened herself.
It frightened him.
She reached
because she felt mirrored.
He stepped back
because he felt seen.
